Description

Description

A charming miniature species from the cloud forests of Ecuador, Masd. xanthina is valued for its delicate floral form and compact, clumping habit. Its small size and adaptability to enclosed, humid environments make it a favorite for terrarium culture as well as cool-house collections.

  • Light: Grow under 50–70% shade cloth; direct sun causes rapid damage to its fine foliage and must be avoided.
  • Temperature: Cool grower. Daytime 55–65°F (13–18°C), nights 45–54°F (7–12°C). Consistent cool temperatures are essential; avoid prolonged warmth above 68°F (20°C).
  • Humidity: Requires 75–90% relative humidity; thrives in enclosed or semi-enclosed setups such as terrariums where humidity can be maintained consistently.
  • Watering: Keep evenly and consistently moist; best grown mounted or in a small pot with fine bark to allow the roots to dry slightly between waterings, with more frequent misting during warmer months.

Additional Notes

Grown at Ecuagenera in the highlands of Ecuador under cool mountain conditions. Well suited for terrarium culture. Plants are shipped bare root, well-established, and ready to mount or pot in fine bark or sphagnum moss.
