Description

Description

This is a remarkable member of the Ericaceae family native to the cloud forests of Ecuador. This species features distinctive tubular flowers with waxy texture and vibrant coloration. Its compact growth habit and ornamental appeal make it an excellent choice for intermediate growing conditions.

  • Light: Bright indirect light to partial shade. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the foliage. Thrives under 50-70% shade cloth or in bright filtered light.
  • Temperature: Daytime temperatures of 65-75°F (18-24°C) and nighttime temperatures of 55-65°F (13-18°C). Can tolerate brief drops to 50°F (10°C).
  • Humidity: High humidity levels of 60-80% with good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Keep the growing medium consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of substrate begins to dry. Reduce watering slightly during cooler months.

Additional Notes

An epiphytic shrub from Andean cloud forests. The species name "glans" refers to its acorn-like flower buds. Best grown in well-draining acidic substrate rich in organic matter. Excellent for hanging baskets or mounted displays to showcase its natural cascading growth.
