Information

Pleopeltis panamense

A compact epiphytic fern with a dense rosette of simple, linear-lanceolate fronds featuring entire margins, an acuminate apex, and a prominent midrib along a slightly leathery lamina. The arching, grass-like fronds radiate outward from a central rhizome, creating a graceful, fountain-like silhouette that suits both mounted and potted cultivation.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 30–50% shade cloth; tolerates brief morning sun but avoid harsh midday exposure, which can desiccate the narrow fronds.
  • Temperature: 68–90°F (20–32°C); thrives as a warm grower with consistent heat and good air circulation; avoid temperatures below 59°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: 50–70%; adapts to moderate humidity but benefits from regular misting, especially when grown mounted without a substrate reservoir.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the substrate or mount to dry out almost completely between waterings; this species tolerates brief dry periods once established.
  • Growth Habit: Epiphytic or rupiculous fern that produces a tight, arching rosette of narrow fronds from a creeping rhizome. Its compact, grass-like form makes it an elegant accent for vivaria, mounted displays, or small tropical collections.

Additional Notes

Best mounted on cork bark with a thin layer of sphagnum moss, or grown in a coarse, well-draining epiphytic mix. Shipped bare root, well-established.
