This distinctive, tropical terrestrial herb is a member of the Gesneriad family, currently endemic to the rainforests of Ecuador. It is overwhelmingly valued as a foliage plant, distinguished by its dark, hairy leaves that display purplish-green to black coloration on the top surface and deep purple underneath.
The flowers are typically tubular, small, and cream-colored or white. The plant's striking, velvety foliage makes it a prized addition to any collection, valued primarily for its exceptional ornamental leaves.
The plant when it arrived was enormous, far bigger than expected. Some leaves had wilted during transport but it will soon recover and should make an excellent specimen plant.
I could not believe how big the plant was, and after losing a few leaves because of transport, it is nice and healthy and doing quite well!
