Information

Dendrobium primulinum

Dendrobium primulinum is a graceful deciduous orchid with long, pendulous canes that become lined with softly colored flowers after the leaves fall. Pale lavender-pink petals frame a creamy, finely textured lip, creating a delicate display that is often accompanied by a pleasant fragrance.

Care Guide

  • Light: Provide bright, filtered light, with gentle morning sun if available. Strong light during active growth helps mature the canes and supports flowering.
  • Water: Water generously while new growth and roots are developing, allowing the medium to approach dryness between waterings. After the canes mature and leaves begin to fall, reduce watering for a cooler, drier rest.
  • Humidity: Maintain moderate to high humidity with good air circulation, including during the resting period.
  • Temperature: Grow in intermediate conditions during active growth, followed by cooler nights as the canes mature.
  • Growing medium: Use a coarse, fast-draining orchid mix in a basket or suspended pot that allows the long canes to hang naturally. Repot when new roots begin to emerge.

With vigorous seasonal growth followed by a distinct cool, dry rest, Dendrobium primulinum can reward the grower with a fragrant cascade of soft, beautifully textured flowers.
