Information

Columnea herthae 'Pangui'

A trailing gesneriad from the cloud forests of Ecuador, with slender, scandent stems bearing opposite, lanceolate leaves with a distinctly purplish underside. Small tubular flowers with a bilobed lip are produced along the stems, making it a floriferous and ornamental species for hanging baskets or mounted displays.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can damage the delicate foliage.
  • Temperature: 59–77°F (15–25°C); an intermediate-warm grower that appreciates consistent warmth and good air movement.
  • Humidity: 65–85%; high humidity encourages vigorous stem growth and prolific flowering.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the top layer of substrate begins to dry; avoid waterlogging, which can cause stem rot.

Additional Notes

Shipped bare root and well established. Best grown in a well-draining, airy mix or mounted to allow its trailing stems to cascade naturally. An excellent choice for intermediate growers seeking a compact, free-flowering gesneriad.
