Description

Description

A truly unusual miniature orchid from the cloud forests of Ecuador, instantly recognizable by its compact, urn-shaped blooms — a form so distinctive it inspired the species name, from the Latin for "box." The flowers are nearly closed, with tightly fused sepals forming a globose, dark-bodied structure edged in bright contrasting tones.

  • Light: Low to moderate light; 70–80% shade cloth. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the foliage.
  • Temperature: 50–65°F (10–18°C); cool grower. Cool nights are essential for healthy growth and blooming — avoid prolonged temperatures above 75°F (24°C).
  • Humidity: 70–90%. High humidity is key; always pair with good air movement to prevent fungal rot.
  • Watering: Keep roots evenly moist at all times. Water more frequently in warm months, slightly less in winter. Never allow to dry out completely.

Additional Notes

Best grown in fine bark or sphagnum moss in small net or plastic pots. Ideal for cool-growing or climate-controlled setups. Offered by Ecuagenera, Ecuador, as a well-established bare-root plant.
