Information

Ronnbergia brasiliensis

Ronnbergia brasiliensis is a tropical bromeliad with an architectural rosette of strap-shaped leaves. Its layered foliage brings a forest-inspired feel to a shaded plant collection, offering interest beyond a single flowering display. Give the rosette room to develop and enjoy watching new leaves unfold from the center, creating a sculptural accent among softer tropical foliage.

Care Guide

  • Light: Provide filtered light or bright indirect light. Protect from harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.
  • Temperature: Maintain mild to warm conditions. Protect from frost, cold drafts, and sudden temperature changes.
  • Watering: Keep the growing medium lightly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings. If the rosette holds water in a central cup, use clean, low-mineral water and flush it regularly rather than allowing debris and stale water to accumulate. Avoid keeping the cup full in cold conditions.
  • Humidity: Provide moderate to high humidity with gentle air circulation. Keep away from drying air vents and avoid stagnant, excessively wet conditions.
  • Potting Mix: Use a loose, well-drained bromeliad mix containing bark and other airy components. Choose a container with drainage holes and keep the crown above the medium.
  • Feeding: Apply a very dilute, balanced fertilizer sparingly during active growth, following the manufacturer's directions. Avoid concentrated fertilizer in the central cup.
  • Maintenance: Remove fully dried leaves carefully and keep the rosette free of debris. Handle leaf margins with care, as bromeliads may have sharp edges.
  • After Flowering: A mature rosette flowers once and gradually declines while producing offsets. Allow offsets to develop before separating them; waiting until they are roughly one-third to one-half the size of the parent improves their chances of establishment.

With filtered light, gentle humidity, and an airy growing medium, Ronnbergia brasiliensis adds lasting foliage interest and tropical structure to a thoughtfully maintained collection.
