Information

Restrepia dodsonii (Big)

A large, well-established division of this creeping epiphyte from the cloud forests of Ecuador, with dense, interlacing stems bearing glossy, ovate leaves. The slender flowers display a narrow, elongated synsepal with fine, dense maculación and thread-like antennal petals with long, dark filiform tails — produced successively from the leaf axils.

  • Light: Moderate indirect light with 60–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the glossy foliage.
  • Temperature: 50–65°F (10–18°C); a cool grower requiring consistent cool conditions and strong airflow.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; high humidity with good air circulation is essential for healthy growth and continuous blooming.
  • Watering: Keep evenly moist at all times; the absence of pseudobulbs means no drought tolerance.

Additional Notes

Blooms repeatedly from the leaf axils throughout the year. Best grown mounted on cork bark or in a small pot with sphagnum moss to maintain consistent moisture. Ships bare-root in excellent condition.
