Information

Philodendron erubescens 'Shake'

A hemiepiphytic climbing species from the tropical forests of South America with cordate-sagittate leaves featuring pronounced basal lobes and deep crimson-red petioles. New leaves emerge from vivid red cataphylls in warm bronze tones before maturing to a glossy, deep green surface with prominent pinnate venation.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid harsh direct sun, which can bleach the glossy leaf surface and stress the petioles.
  • Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C); thrives as a warm tropical grower with stable, frost-free conditions.
  • Humidity: 60–80%; high humidity supports vigorous climbing growth and enhances the intensity of the new leaf emergence.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch of substrate dries; avoid waterlogging and never let roots sit in standing water.
  • Growth Habit: Hemiepiphytic climber with cordate-sagittate leaves on deep crimson petioles. New growth emerges from red cataphylls in striking bronze tones, creating a dramatic contrast between emerging and mature foliage as the plant ascends its support.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with a moss pole or trellis for support. Shipped bare root, well-established.
