Information

Epidendrum homeieri

A sympodial orchid native to the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing lax, branched racemes with few well-spaced, substantial flowers featuring broad ovate sepals, rounded petals, and a large cucullate lip with a papillose, iridescent surface. The waxy, fleshy floral texture and prominent hooded lip make it a distinctive species for intermediate-cool collections.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the foliage.
  • Temperature: 54–72°F (12–22°C); an intermediate-cool grower that benefits from mild days and cool nights with good air movement.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; consistent humidity supports healthy growth and reliable flowering.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to approach dryness between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the roots.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a fine, well-draining bark-based mix or mounted on cork. Good air circulation helps maintain the iridescent lip texture at its best. Ships bare root, well-established.
