Описание

The Bulbophyllum sprucei is a large epiphytic orchid native to the rainforests of South America. This species is notable for its large, fleshy, deeply grooved pseudobulbs and long, leathery leaves. It produces an umbel of several long-lasting, waxy, flowers.

  • Light: Requires intermediate, bright, indirect light. Protect it strictly from direct midday sun exposure.
  • Temperature: Prefers warm to intermediate temperatures, ideally ranging between 65-80°F (18-27°C) during the day. A night temperature drop is necessary to promote healthy growth and flowering.
  • Humidity: Demands high humidity, around 70% or more. Excellent air circulation is mandatory to prevent fungal development in high humidity.
  • Watering: Requires abundant and consistent moisture throughout the year. The potting media should be kept perpetually moist and should never be allowed to dry out completely.

Additional Notes

It is often best grown mounted on cork or in baskets with a water-retentive but well-draining mix to accommodate its extensive, creeping rhizome. Like many Bulbophyllum species, it is pollinated by flies.
