Information

Alocasia sinuata

Alocasia sinuata

Alocasia sinuata is a rare and visually captivating tropical species from the Araceae family, native to the Philippines. A warm-growing Alocasia, it is prized for its thick, leathery, deeply quilted leaves with a distinctive puckered or bullate surface texture — the name sinuata referring to the sinuous, wavy quality of the leaf margins and surface. The deep green, glossy foliage with its raised, grid-like texture gives the plant a bold, almost sculptural appearance that makes it instantly recognizable and highly sought after among Alocasia collectors.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun which can scorch the thick, textured leaves — consistent filtered light best maintains the deep green color and surface texture
  • Temperature: Warm; ideal temperatures 22–30°C (72–86°F); sensitive to cold — protect from drafts and temperatures below 16°C (61°F)
  • Watering: Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings; water thoroughly then allow to drain well; the thick leaves store some moisture but avoid prolonged drought or waterlogging
  • Humidity: High humidity preferred, ideally 60–80%; use a humidifier or pebble tray in drier indoor environments
  • Substrate: Very well-draining, airy mix; a blend of coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal — good root aeration is key for this species

Alocasia sinuata is a bold and texturally extraordinary species that stands out in any tropical collection with its quilted, sculptural foliage. A rare Philippine warm-climate species from Ecuagenera, grown with care in Ecuador.
