Information

Oncidium armatum (Big)

A vigorous, large-growing epiphytic species from the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing tall, branching inflorescences laden with numerous star-shaped flowers. The blooms feature narrow, pointed sepals and petals with a small, contrasting lip — presented on arching, dark stems that extend well beyond the foliage.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; tolerates more light than many Oncidiums but avoid harsh direct sun.
  • Temperature: 50–65°F (10–18°C); a cool grower that requires a distinct temperature drop at night to initiate blooming.
  • Humidity: 65–80%; high humidity combined with good airflow prevents fungal issues and supports robust growth.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness between waterings; never allow roots to remain waterlogged.

Additional Notes

This large-sized division is well-established with mature pseudobulbs ready to spike. Best grown in a well-draining bark mix in a basket or slotted pot to ensure excellent airflow around the roots. Ships bare-root in excellent condition.
