Information

Anthurium papillilaminum (Big)

A striking foliage species from the cloud forests of Central America, prized for its large, deeply cordate leaves with a velvety, near-black surface and prominent primary venation. It grows as a hemiepiphyte with a bold, architectural habit suited to warm, humid interiors.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with up to 70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the dark, delicate leaf surface.
  • Temperature: 65–82°F (18–28°C); a warm tropical grower that prefers stable warmth and dislikes cold drafts or temperatures below 60°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: 70–90%; high humidity enhances leaf expansion and preserves the characteristic velvety texture.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the top layer of the mix begins to dry; never allow the roots to sit in saturated media or dry out completely.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a chunky, well-draining aroid mix with added perlite or orchid bark to ensure excellent aeration around the roots. Shipped bare root and well-established at approximately 45 cm; plant promptly upon arrival and water generously to rehydrate the roots.
