Native to the Amazon basin and surrounding cloud forest foothills of Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru, this intermediate to warm-growing form is distinguished by its exceptionally large, velvety leaves in deep emerald green with dramatically contrasting pale to golden-yellow primary veins, and the characteristic bristly, hairy petioles that make verrucosum instantly recognizable. The 'Amazonas' designation reflects its lowland Amazonian provenance — typically producing larger, more lush leaves than highland forms.
