Platystele ornata

A prolific miniature epiphyte from the Andean cloud forests, producing multiple erect racemes simultaneously from broad, elliptic leaves. Each small flower displays ovate sepals with a distinctly papillose, almost granular texture, sharply tipped petals, and a neat rounded labelo — a richly ornate bloom that more than justifies its name.

• Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the soft, broad leaves.
• Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a Cool grower that thrives with stable cool conditions and consistent air movement. Minimum 45°F (7°C).
• Humidity: 70–90%; mount or grow in a fine open mix to ensure excellent airflow around the roots while maintaining high ambient moisture.
• Watering: Water frequently to keep roots evenly moist; the fine root system dislikes prolonged dryness.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted on cork bark or in a small pot with a fine, well-draining mix. Plants are shipped bare root and well-established.
