Description

Oberonia brachystachys Culture

  • Light: This orchid thrives in moderate, indirect light. It should be grown in conditions similar to Phalaenopsis, where it receives ample ambient light but is shielded from direct sun, which will quickly burn its delicate leaves.
  • Temperature: Oberonia brachystachys is an intermediate-to-warm-growing species. It prefers daytime temperatures between 21-27°C (70-80°F) and a moderate drop at night to 15-21°C (60-70°F).
  • Humidity: High humidity, between 60-80%, is essential for this plant's health.
  • Watering: This orchid lacks pseudobulbs for water storage, so it requires consistent moisture. The roots should be kept moist but should never be soggy.

Additional notes:

The species name, brachystachys, which means "short flower spike," accurately describes its blooming habit. The plant produces a dense, short spike of hundreds of tiny, inconspicuous flowers that create a fuzzy, orange-yellow appearance.
