Information

Maxillaria macrura f. xanthina

A rare and highly sought-after color form of Max. macrura from the cloud forests of Ecuador, distinguished by its fully chartreuse-yellow flowers lacking the typical pigmentation of the species. The blooms retain the same dramatic, elongated sepals and hooded lip structure, making this form a standout collector's specimen.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the broad, strap-like leaves.
  • Temperature: 54–75°F (12–24°C); an intermediate grower that benefits from cooler nights to stimulate blooming.
  • Humidity: 65–80%; consistent humidity with good airflow is essential for healthy root development.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the root zone.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix in a medium to large pot. An exceptional collector's form prized for its rare, all-yellow coloration and impressive flower size. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
