Описание

Описание

A large, well-established division of this scandent epiphyte from the cloud forests of Ecuador, with elongated, creeping stems bearing large, leathery, glossy ovate leaves and abundant aerial roots. The pendant flowers are produced in clusters from the pseudobulb base: strongly ribbed, ovoid fused-sepal structures with lateral sepals curving outward to reveal a vivid, contrasting red interior — among the most dramatic blooms in the genus.

  • Light: Moderate indirect light with 55–65% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the large, leathery foliage.
  • Temperature: 58–72°F (14–22°C); an intermediate grower that benefits from consistent temperatures and good airflow.
  • Humidity: 65–85%; high humidity supports vigorous scandent growth and regular blooming cycles.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness between waterings; well-developed pseudobulbs provide moderate drought tolerance.

Additional Notes

Blooms repeatedly throughout the year directly from the pseudobulb base. Best grown mounted on cork bark or in a hanging basket with coarse bark to accommodate its creeping habit. A spectacular botanical specimen for the serious collector. Ships bare-root in excellent condition.
