Information

Macroclinium escobarianum

A diminutive epiphytic orchid from the Andean cloud forests, with narrow, linear-lanceolate leaves and short scapes bearing multiple simultaneous flowers. The blooms display translucent linear-lanceolate sepals and distinctively spiraled petals and labellum in purple-pink with dark spotting — a hallmark of the genus — and emit a delicate fragrance.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which stresses the compact, fine-rooted growth.
  • Temperature: 55–72°F (13–22°C); a cool to intermediate grower that benefits from good air movement and a slight nighttime temperature drop to encourage blooming.
  • Humidity: 75–90%; consistently high humidity is essential for this miniature cloud forest species.
  • Watering: Water frequently to keep the fine root system evenly moist; never allow to dry out completely, as miniature Macroclinium are highly sensitive to desiccation.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted on cork bark or tree fern to accommodate its creeping, mat-forming habit and ensure excellent air circulation around the roots. Plants are well-established and shipped mounted on cork bark..
