Information

Guzmania lingulata variegada

A variegated form of a bromeliad species native to Ecuador and the broader American tropics, forming a wide, open rosette of long, strap-like leaves striped longitudinally with cream-yellow and green. At maturity it produces a striking central inflorescence with vivid red bracts that persists for several weeks.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; avoid direct sun, which can bleach the variegated foliage and scorch the bracts.
  • Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C); a warm tropical grower that dislikes temperatures below 55°F (13°C) and cold drafts.
  • Humidity: 50–70%; benefits from moderate to high humidity for healthy foliage and prolonged bract color.
  • Watering: Keep the central cup filled with fresh water and allow the potting mix to dry slightly between waterings; flush the cup regularly to prevent stagnation.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a bromeliad or orchid bark mix in a well-draining pot; roots are primarily anchoring and do not require a deep substrate. After the main rosette flowers, it produces offsets (pups) that can be separated and grown on. Shipped as a well-established plant; place in a bright, warm spot upon arrival.
