Masdevallia discoidea (Big)

A robust species from the cloud forests of South America, offered here in a well-established big size. It forms broad, fleshy rosettes of spatulate, glossy leaves and bears distinctive flowers with fused sepals forming a rounded, disc-like structure with slender tails and a velvety texture.

• Light: Bright indirect light with 50–65% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the thick foliage.
• Temperature: 55–72°F (13–22°C); an intermediate grower that appreciates stable temperatures and consistent air movement throughout the year.
• Humidity: 70–85%; high humidity supports healthy leaf development and encourages consistent blooming.
• Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist at all times; this species lacks pseudobulbs and cannot tolerate prolonged dry periods.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a small to medium pot with fine bark or sphagnum moss to maintain moisture while allowing good root aeration. Plants are shipped bare root and well established; pot promptly upon arrival and water thoroughly to rehydrate the roots.
