Columnea flexiflora

An epiphytic gesneriad from the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing erect, pubescent stems with opposite, lanceolate, serrate leaves and clusters of tubular, bilabiate flowers at the apex. The upper lip is strongly arched and the open throat reveals prominent stamens — a floral structure adapted for hummingbird pollination and highly ornamental in cultivation.

• Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the pubescent foliage and fade the flowers.
• Temperature: 55–75°F (13–24°C); a cool to intermediate grower that benefits from stable, mild temperatures and good air circulation.
• Humidity: 65–85%; consistent high humidity supports healthy stem elongation and continuous flowering.
• Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist but never waterlogged; allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings to prevent stem rot.

Additional Notes

Columnea flexiflora is best grown in a hanging basket or mounted with a moisture-retentive epiphytic mix, allowing the stems to develop freely. Shipped bare root in well-established condition, ready to pot or mount upon arrival.
