Description

Description

This is an epiphytic shrub belonging to the Ericaceae family, native to the high-altitude cloud forests. This specific variety was named or introduced by the Ecuagenera research team.

  • Light: Requires bright, indirect light or filtered sunlight. Intense direct sun exposure must be strictly avoided as it can burn the foliage, but ample filtered light promotes blooming.
  • Temperature: Thrives in intermediate conditions, demanding a significant drop in temperature overnight. Aim for daytime temperatures of 65-77°F (18-25°C) and a distinct nighttime drop to 50-61°F (10-16°C).
  • Humidity: High humidity is essential, ideally maintained between 60% and 80% or higher. Excellent and continuous air circulation is critical in this high-moisture environment to prevent fungal or bacterial issues.
  • Watering: The potting medium should be kept consistently moist but must not be waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top surface feels slightly dry, ensuring excellent drainage. Use soft water (rainwater or purified water) to prevent mineral buildup.

Additional Notes

This species features vibrant, waxy, tubular flowers, often in shades of magenta or reddish-orange, that are typically pollinated by hummingbirds. The plant is often grown mounted or in a chunky, acidic epiphytic mix in a hanging basket to display its pendent habit.
