Honestly, I only rated this less than 5 so others would possibly read my review. Verrucosum Are Notoriously Bad Shippers and this one is no exception. This was 1 of 10+ plants I ordered with expedited shipping. It is 2 1/2 months later and still in rehab mode with this one but I bought it fully aware that I would be rehabbing it. The speciman was gorgeous and big when it arrived, leaves were exactly as pictured except for some yellowing already starting, roots on Verrucosum are small and stringy to begin with so what was there was compromised by the time it got to me. However, they sent a very nice cutting with 4 nodes on it ane great internodal space. The leaves quickly faded and left and i chopped it into 4 pieces (a node per piece). 1 has rotted but the other 3 are doing well, starting to root and pushing new growth. So,all in all, I am very satisfied since I will actually end up with 3 plants not 1 but others may not be all that happy to get this one since it will take time, patience, and prop/rehab knowledge. Definitely not a plant for someone looking to take it out of the box,put it straight in a pot and hope it grows.

Very happy with purchased, arrived dehydrated as usual. After couple hours in water, plum right up. Roots are great. I’m actually very impressed with the plant, love the back side! Cant wait to display in my plant room. Great buy for $$

I was very excited to pick this up as a pre-order at the YYC orchid show. When I got home and opened it up, the stem was all shriveled, the leaves are various stages of yellowing and the roots were bone dry in the moss. It has since lost all its leaves and is a very sad stick laying in some moss with hopes that we get some growth.

  4. Anastasiya Denysyuk (verified owner)

The plant is gorgeous! The root system didn’t like the shipping process though, I had to chop almost everything off and chop the plant in 3 to re-root. No yellowing, but the leaves were a bit limp when I received it.

  5. Ling Ang (verified owner)

Received this plant with Low expectation after reading most of the reviews on how bad this plant reacted to shipping. To my surprise this plant arrived with only 2/6 leaves with yellow leaves. But after one week I left with 2 proper leaves as the rest were turning yellow and brownÖhopefully the new leave will be coming in successfully as there is a new growth budÖitís on a moss pole and aroids soil mix.

This plant absolutely doesn’t ship well. I received the plant in very poor condition. All the leaves are yellowing and the roots are blackish and rot. Leaving me with one long stem, that’s it. Having handle other type of Verrucosum, I thought I am smart enough to make it works, little did I know that this plant need first born human sacrifice to make her push one single root (which never happened). I tried everything and by everything, I mean EVERYTHING. I tried water progagation, nope rot. I tried put it in porous aroid mix and keep the humidity high, nope rot. I tried pure moist forest moss, rot again. I tried ignore her, maybe she will thrive in ignorance and childhood trauma, nope she even rot faster and worse. Finally she left with one short stem with 2 nodes. I divide her into 2, hoping at least one of them survive, they don’t. I tried to contact Ecuagenera after all my attempts unsuccessful, but since it has passed their policy, there’s nothing that they can do. Don’t get me wrong, the plant is absolutely beautiful yess, but very demanding. So if you want to order it, my advice is… be prepared, if you receive it in poor condition, contact Ecuagenera right away, don’t take any chances because believe me, you are not ready to handle it. If you are successful to make it thrive, please let me know the shaman and magic that you use. Good Luck!

This plant looked beautiful and healthy at the beginning, but started decaying not long after. I have several demanding plants that are thriving, so it’s not due to my conditions. I just think it’s a delicate and sensitive plant. Be aware of this.

  9. Kayla Krantz (verified owner)

Compared to other plants in my recent import, this one traveled pretty well. Most of the roots were rotted so I have to reroot it, but the leaves are in good condition and a growth point is activating.

  10. Ryan Maness (verified owner)

I bought this plant and when it arrived all the roots had rotted and it looked a little bad but I thought I could rehab it and no. It just kept continuing to rot until it was all gone. I have alot of different Verrucosum’s and dont have any trouble growing them. I think I will stick to only ordering from inside the USA for plants.

  11. Kymisha Stanko (verified owner)

Beautiful plant, however, don’t purchase it if you do not want to have to go through the rehab process. This plant does not ship well. I purchased one and it lost all of its leaves. Customer service was fantastic, and they did ship a replacement. Unfortunately, the replacement lost all but 1 leaf. The one leaf died off after a week. The stem and roots are still in good condition on both plants so we are just waiting now.

  12. Rossana Contreras (verified owner)

The plant arrive @ Vandula Farm in good Condition. its little bit bigger for the size. Im Happy and Satisfies to my orders. I hope on this plant have seedlings too.

  13. Marko Rop (verified owner)

So happy I decided to add this one to my order after I already did the first order, so very nice to see the Ecuagenera team being very kind and helpful there. It looks even better in real than on photo, at least the one I got.

  14. Ramona Neff (verified owner)

Might even consider this prettier than the rubrijuvenile “El Choco Red”

  15. Meredith Foley (verified owner)

This plant is gorgeous – but verrucosums don’t do well with shipping. Mine was pretty beat up when it arrived but that is NOT Ecua’s fault. They offered to replace it because of the condition it was in, which shows what an awesome company they are!! Currently waiting for my replacement to arrive 🙂

  16. Johanna Roth (verified owner)

Cosmetic damage during shipping but I don’t care because a beautiful new leaf just opened. 🙂

  17. Michael Slipchuk (verified owner)

I ordered two on sale in Jan that were delivered in March to UK. Was expecting these to die on arrival as verrucosums are notorious for it. However one week after delivery I have slight yellowing on one leaf and some shipping damage to leaves. Not a single leaf dropped – one had 4 leaves and another one had 3. Plants are 50-70 cm size with large leaves. I think good packaging by Ecuagenera crew paid a big role.

  18. ERNEST TOCK (verified owner)

Roots when shipped were excellent. Shipping stress cause all leaves to have a slight yellowing and it lost 2 leaves in the acclimatization process. I think its roots are starting to grow into my current substrate and I am happy on how I still have 3 good leaves and 2 activate nodes

  19. Aik Leng Lim (verified owner)

This is the best looking and most healthy looking plant I received from Ecuagenera after 3 purchases. While many buyers have commented that this species does not ship well, I was fortunate to receive a plant with 2 healthy leaves and a new shoot (One of the leaves is slightly yellowing but expected for verrucosum). The stem and roots are healthy and the roots are still pretty moist when I received them. Thanks Ecuagenera team!

  20. Elizabeth Hardesty (verified owner)

I ordered 3 of these and most of the leaves were yellow/orange upon arrival. Two of the plants lost pretty much all of their leaves within the first few days and the third one I had rooting in water (root systems were not good) and it eventually died too.

  21. Yoli Collazo (verified owner)

It is a stunning plant and right now I have it in rehab as I have cut all of its leaves. It does not ship well. I am hoping it can re-root

  22. Chanel Montenegro (verified owner)

I didnít expect much because I realize these types donít ship well. I waited about 2 months and it finally came yesterday. 2 leafs one on the way, I had to chop one of them. The roots are very thin so hopefully itíll root soon. There are several growth points on it though so Iím not too worried. The leaf that survived is so so pretty. The red on the bad is gorgeous. Iím excited to rehab it back to its stunning self.

  23. Eve Edwards (verified owner)

Shipped well to UK. Good root system and stem. New leaf unfurling snapped in transit but I didnít expect it to be perfect. Leaves starting to yellow while acclimating but not too concerned due to strong roots. Back of leaves are bright red!

  24. Alex Tan (verified owner)

Was waiting for the plant to arrived after more than 2 months as delivery was delayed due to the plant is not ready. Finally, i received the plants on Oct delivery but 2 of the leaf already started to yellow and it looks so different from the advertised picture. The back of the leaf is not as red, to me it is just like a normal Verrucusum. Sometimes we just cant trust the advertised pic totally.

  25. Christine Br¸ckner (verified owner)

Received a healthy plant which shipped very well. Unfortunately I received a plant that looks nothing like the pictures at all… Front of the leaves looks like P. luxians (Like it should) but the back has just a few dark red parts (like a ‘normal’ verrucosum)…

  26. Paul Michael Richardson (verified owner)

This plant arrived with three leaves and two of them had to be removed after unpacking. Root system was adequate, but also beginning to dry out. Verrucosum are very fussy during shipping. This plant is rehabbing well in sphagnum moss and has a new leaf emerging soon. Out of all of my orders from Ecuagenera, the two saddest plants I received were Verrucosum (5- El Choco & Amazon Sunset). If you go in with the right expectations you will be pleased with your order.

  27. Ivan Szergyuk (verified owner)

This one looks even better than the pictures advertised. Arrived in perfect condition, and showing no signs of shipping stress yet. Leaves are quite large, with intense red abaxials, thick stem and great roots.

  28. Victor Galle (verified owner)

I had to wait for 2 months because they weren’t rooted yet and because that’s a Verruvosum i paid the express shipping but there’s still something very wrong here. Plants come from far and the packing is extremely poor. They simply wrap the plants in paper and sit them together in a tiny, tight box with some confetti. I have sent two emails over this and they said they would improve the packing and well, they didn’t. My plant had 3 leaves and one new leaf coming. The new leaf was rot and I’m losing the last leaf that was left. It’s quite a lot of money to waste like that. Sadly I’m not buying here anymore. I’ll be trying the EU version.

  29. Michael Green (verified owner)

Ordered these two specimens a few months back so had to wait quite a while for them to arrive last week. The plants are striking and beautiful. Their coloring is as brilliant as shown in the photo. One plant had 4 leaves and the other only two. The stems weren’t very big and aren’t attached to chonks. Roots were basically rotted and non existent. One of the stems had begun to rot so I had to dig out the rot and treat. The same plants also had fungal issues on both leaves, one of which is lost and the other I believe it will lose. Leaves were wrapped in cotton which helped protect them against physical damage but I don’t think it lent much help in the dept. of fungal issues. It’s yet to be seen if this plant will survive. I anticipate the other plant with 4 leaves should make it. That being said, Verru’s notoriously do not ship well. I don’t think ordering this plant is for the faint of heart. You should expect to have to do considerable rehab and probably best reserved for experienced growers, or at least until their stock matures. But I think you’ll be rewarded with an extremely beautiful species. Giving 3.5 stars due to the wait from order time, and the one plant arriving with stem rot.

  30. Slavita Laies (verified owner)

I received a beautiful specimen, smaller than pictured but with 4 leaves and alot of roots, unfortunately the roots are very thin and dryout once out of the medium, leaves yellowed, but I am hopeful it will perk-up

  31. Nemo Nguyen (verified owner)

I feel cheated. Maybe if you is the first time buyer you was get left over shit. Waited for almost 3months, got 2 small leaves, one is yellow, one is wet rot, roots is rots. It gonna be a wet stick for sure, if Iíd get one with 4-5 leaves I donít mind loosing 2 leaves. I know itís hit or miss with import, especially, with ecuagenera as i watched a lot of unboxing on youtube. Still, i pay the same price, i should deserve better. Iím pretty sure thereíre many other people with the same situation.

I have waited for this plant for 2 months, and it finally arrived today. It was first noticed to be shipped in August, then delayed to September. The plant arrived in poor condition, with 2 leaves and one of them is dying. All root dries out. It will probably end up with a wet stick. Definitely not worth it.

  33. Ryan Maness (verified owner)

This is such a beautiful plant. I recieved a 5 node 2 leaf top cutting with a new leaf on the way. It had roots at one point but all were dead on arrival except for one tiny root. But I definitely can root it so no worries. It has huge leaves and is so stunning. Very happy with my purchase.

  34. Karolina Czempas (verified owner)

Beautiful verrucosum, arrived in perfect condition with nice root system, 4 leaves and new one coming. I was afraid because verru doesn’t like shipping, but this one came to me in great condition!

  35. Petra Sundberg (verified owner)

It arrived in perfect condition, three leaves and one coming. The roots looks healthy and the plant is as i expected and more. I had it shipped from Germany, and it reached my home the day after, so no long time in a box for this one.

  36. Mariya Makivchuk (verified owner)

I ordered about a dozen of plants and I couldn’t believe my eyes – they all arrived super fresh, with big developed leaves and healthy root systems. As if shipping never happened. Each plant was carefully wrapped to preserve moisture and prevent rot. This plant is a real stunner – the red undersides are like no other plant, much more intense than a regular El Choco. The veins are also more pronounced, almost painted. It’s a big chunky plant but has small damage on leaves from shipping. I’m not worried about it as it’s very healthy and will have no trouble growing new leaves. Very happy I ordered it! (and I already have many verrucosums)

  37. Gabriel Gabriel (verified owner)

Lovely red back, but it definitely not a plant for longer shipping. Will look forwart to its new leaves.

  38. Rita Guill (verified owner)

I ordered online and picked up in Tacoma WA. This plant had 3 leaves, lost 2 about 3 days after it arrived. Eight weeks later, it still only has 1 leaf, no new growth visible. I’ve checked the roots a couple of times…I do well with plants, but I’m guessing it’s just taking time to acclimatize

  39. Carina Hock (verified owner)

I ordered this plant some months ago and it arrived a few weeks later in really sad condition. Since it was still alive but without leaves, Ecuagenera did not replace it. This is very unsatisfying.

  40. Philip Lee (verified owner)

Location: MalaysiaIt’s definitely one of my wishlist plant. Hesitated to preorder as other reviews suggested that this species is a bad-shipper but I still ordered 2 as it’s the first time Ecuagenera joins plant show in Malaysia. (Bought 2 just in case one of it arrives in bad shape)And yes, it’s proven that my thoughts were correct. One of it was not healthy at all (with rotten roots, 2 leaves but all yellowish) & dying. Has 2-3 nodesThe second one was totally different. It has 6 leaves originally but 3 died off, leaving 3 leaves in good condition. Roots was ok (obviously better than the first one). Has about 5-6 nodes. This clearly shows the huge difference between multiple purchases of same plant.. both should look more or less the same instead of one looking like the medium sized Amazon sunset.Quality control still needs improvement. Disappoints me as I thought that Ecuagenera shouldn’t be missing this part.

  41. Walter Espinosa (verified owner)

Arrived beautifully, not much of a root sistem but thats to be expected. the leaves have minimal damage and are quite large & beautiful

  42. Sharon Jones (verified owner)

You already know you’re going to lose some leaves when you import plants. I had to cut all the leaves off my VAS’s except the ones that had not unfurled yet. The great thing is, the plant has good roots, and multiple growth points activating on its thick stalk. Leaves are like hair…they grow back. If you like this plant, just know you’ll PROBably have to rehab for a little while, but the leaves are VERY STUNNING.

  43. Mina Le (verified owner)

I ordered the amazon sunset knowing full well that they do not do well in shipment. I am in the US and picked my order up in the fall. It has since dropped all it’s leaves but no rot. From pick up to now is about a full month. I see they are rooting wonderfully.
