This was my 1st time ordering from Ecuagenera and it was a bit disappointing. All of the leaves were yellowing and turning brown. I’m contemplating cutting it up. The stem was kind of shriveled up as well, so I’m not sure how viable the nodes would be.

I recieved this plant three days ago: – all the leaves petioles turned soft and the leaves, although not yellow, fell. – stem is turning mushy already. Do not buy this plant I truly believe, based on all the other reviews that this is not a plant to be shipped in general.

This plant looks fairly different from the product photos, in my opinion. However, It is so much more beautiful. The backs are such a deep purple. It came with two leaves, one of which yellowed off within a day, and the other is slowly on its way out. I’ve had it for about two weeks acclimating. it had to lose a lot of roots, and has been slow to grow new ones. Final survival remains to be seen, but I’m hopeful. I would still recommend this plant for sure.

Most roots were dry. If they had moistened the sphagnum moss and maybe sealed the bag better around the roots it might have done better. I donít know if it was repackaged upon entering the states but remoistening around the roots would have saved it. The plant got here in three days so I know it wasnít the shipping time that really set her back.

I placed my order and chose to pick up at one of their Pop-Up Event locations. It was packaged well and I expected that the leaves would be in rough shape, since Verrucosum are notorious for not shipping well. The plant only had one leaf which was yellow and died off a few days later. The stem seems healthy, despite some root rot, so I hope that this will be a successful rehab. I wouldn’t recommend this one for beginners but it’s worth a try for the price.

Plant arrived with minimal signs of stress from shipping despite being a verrucosum. No problems with the roots. Continues growing as it should in my plant cabinet with around 90% relative humidity

The Amazon Sunset really is a magnificent plant. It shipped surprisingly well except for a few bruises and a yellow leaf, but that was to be expected from a Verrucosum. The specimen was obviously selected with great care and it was packed very carefully as well. The only bad point is that to me the root system of the specimen was a yet bit too poor for shipping. But a few weeks with special care will do the trick and no doubt it will grow wonderfully. I’m very satisfied.

I was soooo excited to get this plant, because it’s jus absolutely beautiful. It arrived drooping so I put it in my Ikea cabinet. Pumped with high humidity. Was optimistic that I could save it, Unfortunately it didn’t make it. I Chopped it up to see if I could propagate a few wet sticks…

I just received a perfectly healthy plant with two healthy leaves and a very good root system without any rotted roots.

I knew the P. verrucosums get heavily stressed during shipping, but I went for it, ordering it for pickup at a pop-up event. I don’t know if the true medium survived the shipping or if there was another reason for it, but they supplied me with a full sized plant as a substitution. There was a small 1cm area of root rot at one tip only, and one leaf was yellow, but the rest of the plant was looking strong. I’ve spent two weeks acclimating it in my house near a humidifier (after trimming the dead root tip), and it has adjusted just fine after this period of time. I’m so excited to have this beauty in my collection!

I ordered several plants and chose to pick up at one of their pop-up events to avoid shipping stress. Of all the plants I ordered this was the one I was the most excited about. At time of pick-up, I could see that one of the 2 leaves was completely damaged and mentioned it to a worker who was indifferent. I was hopeful the other leaf was OK. When I got home and fully opened it, the only other leaf was also damaged. I am hoping I can save it, but am really disappointed and wish I had further pursued a replacement right when I picked it up. 🙁

I finally ordered the Amazon Sunset when Ecuagenera started offering it in Medium size, as it is much more affordable that way. I received the plant today, and it has four very healthy leaves. The root system is good with no dead or rotten roots. I typically lose at least one leaf when acclimating imported plants, but would be surprised if I lost any on this one. I think the medium sized plants will acclimate better as well.

recieved this along with another verrucosum and 2 anthuriums…anthuriums had great roots and bounced back after 2 days in water. This verru had a rotted stem that ran thru several nodes. i notified ecuagenera and they said i can get a replacement with my next purchase. So now i have to spend more money to get a replacement? i think this was my last order here…sorry guys….i expect dead leves but not a rotted stem……

Size was as pictured. Does not ship well. Beautiful verrucosum not easily found

This poor thing did not like being shipped. Or being put in a much lower humidity situation. It arrived healthy, but droopy. The root system was good and the specimen itself was healthy. Since then, it has acclimated ok. I have no doubts it will grow on fine.

So… This plant doesn’t ship well — it just doesn’t, expect SOME magnitude of shipping stress. Period. Now, MY experience is that I’ve had to buy this plant from Ecuagenera twice. The first time was my first order from Ecuagenera altogether, I had bought 5-6 plants together to pick up at a pop-up nearby. Everything in my order was a little rough when I picked it up, but the V. Amazon Sunset, (while it still had two beautiful leaves) had absolutely zero roots whatsoever. It had 2-3 dead, yellow leaves and 2 that were still holding on to their beautiful colors, but it looked like it was less a plant, and moreso just a semi-recent top-cut off of a bigger plant — the base of the stem was completely black, and rotted. What was really crazy was that you could FEEL the spongy-ness all the way up the stem and through each petiole too — it was just totally rotted from the inside out.Unfortunately, the day after the pop-up, that b-word, Rona finally caught up to me and so for the next 2 weeks I was just totally, deleriously out of commission. That first V. AS and another couple other DOA plants in that order were very clearly something I should have reported in for replacement, but I was so sick that I just never got around to talking to Ecuagenera (ended up having to just eat the cost – honestly didn’t think I’d ever order from them again after that)But then, a bit later I was still really craving the ability to cross that Amazon Sunset off my list… I figured I couldn’t possibly get sick again so quickly, and decided to try one more time. The second V. AS was a bit smaller — had one small dead yellow leaf, one that arrived in the beginning stages of yellowing, and then 2 perfectly beautiful, dark velvet and deep red-backed leaves. It had a decently developed root system, with truly minimal root rot, and the stem was firm all the way through. It is worth mentioning, the plant did re-absorb and drop all but the one top leaf while it was rehabbed and acclimated over the first month.I did get it to push new roots from each and every node, so I split it into 6 single-node cuttings, (5 “mids” and the crown) and so far I’ve got new sprouts from all 5 mids’ axillary buds — the top cut’s terminal bud is still a bit stagnant, but that was to be expected while it works on its new roots. I have all the faith it will pull through and push foliar growth again within the next couple weeks. All that said, be aware this one’s kinda a mixed pot — I don’t think I’d recommend getting this one imported if you don’t have a whole lot of plant-triage experience, but even if you do it’s still a bit of work.Like I said, expect SOME magnitude of shipping stress — hope it’s less, but be ready for it to be a lot more!
