Description

Description

This medium-sized, terrestrial slipper orchid is native to wet montane forests in Ecuador and Peru, growing at elevations between 410 and 1400 meters. It forms fan-shaped clumps of long, glossy, dark green leaves and is considered a cool to warm-growing species.

  • Light: It requires medium indirect light or dappled shade. Protect it from direct sunlight.
  • Temperature: This orchid thrives in a range of approximately 63-88°F (17-31°C), preferring warm days and notably cooler nights.
  • Humidity: Very high humidity is essential. Maintain consistent levels between 80-90% year-round.
  • Watering: Water frequently to keep the medium constantly moist; it should never dry out. Use pure water to prevent mineral buildup.

Additional Notes

Blooming occurs on an erect, tall spike that produces large, slipper-shaped flowers up to 6" (15 cm) long, which open one after the other.
