Information

Cattleya schilleriana

A striking species native to the Atlantic forest of South America, this bifoliate orchid produces low-growing, distinctively pigmented pseudobulbs with immense appeal. The glossy, heavy-substance flowers feature intricately wavy margins and an exceptionally prominent, fan-shaped lip adorned with deep radiating lines.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the compact foliage.
  • Temperature: 59–79°F (15–26°C); an intermediate to warm grower that adapts well to stable indoor conditions.
  • Humidity: 60–80%; consistent humidity encourages vigorous growth and prolific flowering.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness between waterings; never allow the roots to remain waterlogged.

Additional Notes

This compact plant yields surprisingly large flowers and benefits from a coarse, fast-draining bark mix or mounting to protect its sensitive root system. It ships bare root, well established, and should be gently rehydrated at an intermediate temperature prior to potting upon arrival.
