Description

Cavendishia bracteata is a stunning tropical plant from the Ericaceae family, native to the cloud forests of Ecuador. This exceptional species features distinctive tubular flowers with prominent colorful bracts that make it a prized addition for collectors of rare tropical plants.

  • Light: Prefers bright indirect light to partial shade. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves. Thrives under 50-70% shade cloth or in a bright location with filtered light.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to cool conditions. Daytime temperatures of 65-75°F (18-24°C) and nighttime temperatures of 55-65°F (13-18°C) are ideal. Can tolerate brief temperature drops to 50°F (10°C).
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity levels of 60-80%. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues while maintaining moisture in the air.
  • Watering: Keep the growing medium consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of substrate begins to dry. Reduce watering slightly during cooler months but never allow to completely dry out.

Additional Notes

An epiphytic to terrestrial shrub native to the Andean cloud forests. The species name "bracteata" refers to its distinctive bracts that surround the tubular flowers. Grows well in hanging baskets or mounted, using a well-draining acidic substrate rich in organic matter.
