Description

Description

Sobralia madisonii is a terrestrial or epiphytic species from Central and South America. This orchid is known for its strong, erect, cane-like growth and visually captivating flowers, thriving under intermediate conditions.

  • Light: It needs bright, filtered light or partial shade. Ensure good light for flowering and strong canes, but protect the foliage from direct, harsh sun.
  • Temperature: This species thrives in intermediate conditions, ideally between 68-86°F (20-30°C). Maintain stable conditions and protect it from extreme cold.
  • Humidity: High humidity, between 60% and 80%, is essential for best health. Always ensure excellent air movement to prevent spotting or fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water liberally and frequently to keep the well-draining media consistently moist. Superior pot drainage is mandatory as the plant must not dry out.

Additional Notes

The plant is decorative both in and out of bloom, thanks to its bamboo-like foliage and robust, rapidly growing habit. Its strong, upright canes and pleated leaves are highly attractive. Individual blooms are short-lived (ephemeral), but they appear in succession, providing an extended floral display.
