Information

Description

Description

A reed-stem epiphyte endemic to the cloud forests of Ecuador, bearing solitary, large flowers on upright stems. The bloom displays an erect, elongated dorsal sepal, broad horizontally spreading lateral sepals, shorter downward-curving petals, and a large, deeply concave, pouch-shaped lip with a waxy texture and prominent longitudinal venation — a distinctive marsupiiform structure that gives the species its name.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun to prevent stress on the foliage.
  • Temperature: 50–72°F (10–22°C); an intermediate-cool grower that benefits from cool nights and good air movement.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; good air circulation around the stems and roots helps prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the medium to approach dryness between waterings; avoid standing water at the roots.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix or mounted on cork. Plants are shipped bare root and well established, ready to settle into their new growing environment.
