Description

One of the most extraordinary and sought-after species in the orchid world, native to the forests of South America. It produces an abundance of small, fleshy, globose flowers directly from the base of compact pseudobulbs — with tepals so deeply pigmented they appear almost entirely black, making this one of the very few orchids in existence with truly near-black flowers. A must-have for any serious collector.

  • Light: Low to moderate indirect light with 60–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the compact, clumping growth.
  • Temperature: 61–82°F (16–28°C); a warm grower that thrives in stable, humid conditions year-round.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; high humidity is essential for this warm-growing, fine-rooted species.
  • Watering: Keep the mix evenly moist; avoid prolonged dryness, which can stress the shallow root system.

Additional Notes

Ideal for terrariums or warm, humid growing environments. Best grown in a fine bark or sphagnum mix in a small, shallow pot. A rare collector's gem prized for its near-black flowers — one of the darkest of any orchid species. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
