Description

Description

A reed-stem epiphyte endemic to the cloud forests of Ecuador, bearing few-flowered racemes of highly distinctive blooms with an erect, elongated dorsal sepal, narrow horizontal lateral sepals, and greatly reduced petals. The flower is dominated by a large, broad, shield-shaped lip with a shiny texture and small upward-curving lateral lobes, creating one of the most architecturally unusual floral structures in the genus.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun to prevent stress on the foliage.
  • Temperature: 57–78°F (14–26°C); an intermediate-warm grower that adapts well to stable warm conditions with moderate night temperature drops.
  • Humidity: 65–85%; good air movement around the roots and stems helps prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the medium to approach dryness between waterings; avoid standing water at the roots.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix or mounted on cork. Plants are shipped bare root and well established, ready to settle into their new growing environment.
