Description

Description

A large, well-established division of this botanically captivating epiphyte from the cloud forests of Central America, forming compact, dense clumps with thick, leathery, glossy ovate leaves. The pendant flowers are produced in clusters directly from the pseudobulb base: fused sepals form strongly ribbed, globose structures with a lustrous surface — the genus’ signature closed bloom architecture at its most dramatic.

  • Light: Moderate indirect light with 55–65% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the thick, leathery foliage.
  • Temperature: 55–70°F (13–21°C); an intermediate-cool grower that benefits from consistent temperatures and good airflow.
  • Humidity: 65–85%; high humidity supports vigorous growth and prolific blooming from the pseudobulb base.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness between waterings; pseudobulbs provide moderate drought tolerance.

Additional Notes

Blooms repeatedly throughout the year in dense pendant clusters. Best grown in a pot with coarse bark or sphagnum moss with excellent drainage, or mounted on cork bark. A striking botanical rarity for the serious collector. Ships bare-root in excellent condition.
