Description

Description

A compact epiphytic species from dry, seasonally arid valleys of the Andes, producing an impressive flower spike disproportionately large for its small size. Flowers are intricate and delicate, with the refined detail characteristic of this rare, monotypic genus.

  • Light: 40–60% shade cloth; bright, filtered light. Tolerates more light than most Oncidium allies — avoid prolonged direct midday sun.
  • Temperature: 60–82°F (15–28°C) — Intermediate to warm grower. Tolerates warm conditions well; benefits from a mild dry rest period between waterings to trigger blooming.
  • Humidity: 50–70%. Good air circulation is essential; this species is adapted to drier, well-ventilated conditions.
  • Watering: Allow the potting medium to approach dryness between waterings. Never allow complete dehydration, but avoid waterlogging — more drought-tolerant than most orchids.

Additional Notes

Grown and propagated by Ecuagenera in the highlands of Ecuador. Best grown in fine-grade bark or mounted on cork to accommodate its preference for good drainage and airflow. Shipped bare root, well-established.
