Description

Description

A striking epiphytic species native to the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing pendant, tubular flowers with a vivid green-to-red gradient that open into a wide, bell-shaped cup with ruffled petals and prominent, ornate stamens. Grown on branches in humid montane forest, it makes a spectacular specimen for the intermediate-warm grower.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the thin leaves.
  • Temperature: 60–80°F (15–27°C); intermediate to warm grower. Tolerates brief dips to 55°F (13°C) but performs best with stable warm nights.
  • Humidity: 70–90%; high humidity is essential. Use a humidifier or humidity tray and ensure strong air movement at all times to prevent fungal rot on the foliage and roots.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly, then allow the mix to approach dryness before watering again. Roots are sensitive to prolonged saturation — never allow the plant to sit in standing water.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted or in a well-draining mix of coarse bark and perlite. Shipped bare root with a healthy, well-established root system — ready to pot or mount upon arrival.
