Geonoma macrostachys

A slender understory palm native to the cloud forests of South America, valued for its elegant, undivided to irregularly pinnate fronds. Leaves are lanceolate with strongly parallel venation, a firm texture, and a graceful arching form atop a slim, upright stem.

• Light: Low to bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; one of the most shade-tolerant palms available, making it ideal for interior tropical settings.
• Temperature: 59–75°F (15–24°C); performs best as an intermediate grower with consistent cool to warm conditions and no frost exposure.
• Humidity: 70–90%; high humidity is essential for healthy frond development and prevents tip browning.
• Watering: Keep substrate evenly moist; water when the surface begins to dry and ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
• Growth Habit: Slow-growing, clumping understory palm reaching 1–2 m at maturity; produces new fronds from a central crown and is well-suited for shaded tropical gardens or large indoor spaces.
