Information

Description

Description

A critically endangered epiphytic orchid endemic to the lowland forests of Ecuador, producing pendant clusters of flowers with reflexed lanceolate sepals, narrow petals, and an extraordinarily large, rounded lip with deeply laciniate margins forming dense, long white fringes. The spectacular fringed lip is unlike anything else in the genus and makes this one of the most sought-after Epidendrum in cultivation.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun, which can stress the foliage.
  • Temperature: 60–80°F (16–27°C); an intermediate-warm grower that thrives with consistently warm temperatures and high humidity year-round.
  • Humidity: 75–90%; high humidity is essential to support vigorous growth and the development of the large, fringed lip.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist; avoid prolonged dryness, which can stress the root system.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix with added moisture retention, or mounted on cork with regular misting. As a critically endangered species, each plant represents an important conservation effort. Ships bare root, well-established.
