Description

Ceratostema rauhii Culture

Discover Ceratostema rauhii, a striking epiphytic shrub in the Ericaceae family, named in honor of Werner Rauh, a renowned German botanist. This species is a true rarity and a captivating addition for collectors of unique cloud forest plants.

Cultivation Notes:

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Filtered sunlight is ideal, mimicking the dappled light found under a forest canopy. 
  • Temperature: Aim for daytime temperatures below 29°C (84°F) and a significant nighttime drop to 4-18°C (40-65°F). 
  • Humidity: High humidity is essential, ideally maintaining levels of 60-80% or more. 
  • Watering: Keep the plant consistently moist but never soggy. Using pure water (rainwater or reverse osmosis water) is highly recommended to prevent mineral buildup.
  • Ventilation: Excellent air circulation is crucial to prevent fungal and bacterial diseases, especially in high-humidity environments. 

Additional note: Ceratostema rauhii can form dramatic, curtain-like growths, with stems potentially reaching up to 2 meters (6 feet) long.

Much smaller than picture

I saw someone order this on YouTube and hers was very full and beautiful. When you order, there’s only 1 size to choose from. The plant I got was much smaller than the picture on the website and not as full as the one I saw on YouTube and it was both ordered on the Ecuagenera Ecuador website.

Larger than expected

This was my first import ever. I was very nervous about transit shock. I’m not sure about the transit time as I did the upgraded ups 2 day shipping from the Florida facility. The plant arrived perfect & little to no shock from the long journey. It was huge ! I soaked it in ro water with superthrive over night then potted it up in a chunky mix in an orchid pot. Plant lives in my green house with rh hovering between 70-80% during the day & at night rh is in the upper 80s & low 90s. Day temps never exceed 80 & at night drops down to 62. Plant is doing good so far !

It was a very quick delivery time and it came well packaged and protected. It still had a healthy amount of leaves when I received it. Much larger than I expected. I'm excited for it to produce flowers.
