Attalea colenda

Attalea colenda, known as the Corozo Palm or Palma Corozo, is a magnificent and ecologically vital palm endemic to the coastal lowlands of Ecuador and Colombia. One of Ecuador's most iconic native palms, it is a towering species with a robust trunk and a crown of long, gracefully arching feather fronds that create a dramatic tropical silhouette. It holds particular importance as a keystone species in its native ecosystem, providing food and habitat for a wide range of wildlife, and has long been valued by local communities for its oil-rich fruits — the seeds yield a high-quality vegetable oil comparable to coconut oil. Increasingly rare in the wild due to habitat loss, growing Attalea colenda is both a botanical privilege and a small act of conservation.
