Amesiella minor
Amesiella minor is a charming and rare miniature epiphytic orchid endemic to the Philippines, first described by Senghas and published in J. Orchideenfr. 6: 121 (1999). A warm-growing member of the Orchidaceae family, it is one of the smallest species in the Amesiella genus — prized for its pristine white, crystalline flowers with a delicate, sweet fragrance that belie its tiny stature. Its compact, fan-like growth habit and exquisite blooms make it a jewel of the miniature orchid world and a highly sought-after species for terrarium and vivarium cultivation.
Care Guide
-
Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the delicate leaves — filtered light mimics its natural forest habitat
-
Temperature: Warm; ideal daytime temperatures 20–28°C (68–82°F), with cooler nights 15–20°C (59–68°F) to encourage flowering; protect from temperatures below 13°C (55°F)
-
Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist but never waterlogged; frequent light waterings preferred; this genus has no pseudobulbs and cannot tolerate prolonged drought — never allow to dry out completely
-
Humidity: High humidity essential, 60–80%; use a humidifier or grow in a terrarium or enclosed environment to maintain adequate moisture levels
-
Substrate/Mounting: Best grown mounted on cork bark or fine tree fern to mimic its natural epiphytic habitat; alternatively use a very fine, well-draining sphagnum moss mix
Amesiella minor is a true miniature gem — its pristine white flowers and compact, terrarium-friendly size make it one of the most delightful and rewarding miniature orchids available. A rare Philippine species from Ecuagenera, grown with care in Ecuador.
