Information

Brassia Leopardo

Brassia Leopardo

Brassia Leopardo is a striking cool-growing orchid primary hybrid, the result of crossing Brassia aurantiaca × Brassia andreettae — two of the most distinctive and colorful species in the Brassia genus. The name "Leopardo" (Spanish for "Leopard") perfectly captures the character of this hybrid: bold, spotted flowers with the elongated, spidery petals and sepals that make Brassia orchids so immediately recognizable, combined with vivid coloration inherited from both parents. A hybrid that is as wild and dramatic as its namesake.

Features

  • Flowers: Spidery, elongated blooms with bold spotting and vivid coloration — a dramatic combination of both parent species
  • Parentage: Brs. aurantiaca × Brs. andreettae — a primary hybrid combining two exceptional Ecuadorian Brassia species
  • Blooming: Produces arching spikes with multiple long-lasting flowers
  • Growth habit: Pseudobulbous epiphyte with strap-like leaves; compact to medium-sized plant
  • Climate: Cool growing — ideal for growers in cooler climates or with temperature-controlled environments

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright indirect light; some morning sun is beneficial and encourages flowering
  • Temperature: Cool growing, between 10°C and 22°C (50°F – 72°F); appreciates a distinct temperature drop at night
  • Watering: Water thoroughly, then allow to approach dryness before watering again; reduce slightly in winter
  • Humidity: Moderate to high, 55–75%; good air circulation is essential
  • Medium: Medium bark or a well-draining orchid mix; repot every 2 years after flowering

Brassia Leopardo combines the best of two extraordinary Ecuadorian orchid species into one bold, spotted, spidery hybrid. Its dramatic flowers and cool-growing nature make it a standout in any orchid collection — and a testament to Ecuagenera’s expertise in breeding with Ecuador’s native flora. Wild by name, spectacular by nature.
