Information

Psammisia debilis cf

A captivating epiphytic shrublet native to Ecuador, Psammisia debilis cf is a rare collector's gem from the family Ericaceae. The 'cf' designation means this plant looks very similar to Psammisia debilis but might have minor differences from the standard species. It features slender, arching branches with elegant foliage and produces small tubular flowers that transition dramatically from deep wine-red to pale green, making it a sophisticated addition to any tropical collection.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun to prevent leaf stress and preserve the plant's delicate structure.
  • Temperature: 65–86°F (18–30°C); thrives in intermediate to warm conditions that mirror its natural Ecuadorian habitat.
  • Humidity: 70–90%; consistent high humidity is essential for healthy growth.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist but well-draining; allow the top layer to approach dryness between waterings to ensure root health.

Additional Notes:

Best cultivated in a hanging basket or mounted to accommodate its naturally scandent, creeping growth habit. The slender reddish stems contrast beautifully with the green foliage, and new growth emerges with attractive reddish-pink coloration. Ships bare root; rehydrate gently in an intermediate-temperature environment before potting in a chunky, well-aerated epiphytic mix.
