Description

Description

This tropical aroid is a climbing plant native to the wet tropical forests of Southeastern Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, found at altitudes ranging from 240 to 2000 meters. It is highly admired for its striking, elongated, sharply pointed, and glossy leaves.

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Bright conditions encourage larger leaves, but harsh, direct sun should be avoided as it can burn the foliage.
  • Temperature: A warm-growing tropical species. Ideal temperatures are between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
  • Humidity: High humidity is preferred, ideally 60% to 80%, for best growth and to prevent browning of the leaf edges.
  • Watering: Water when the top inch of the soil has dried out. Keep the substrate evenly moist but ensure it is never waterlogged to prevent root rot.

Additional Notes

The name acutifolium means "pointed-leaved," which describes its striking foliage. Being a climbing species, it benefits from a moss pole or support structure to reach maturity and produce its largest, most impressive leaves (which can be up to 3 feet long).
