Information

Zootrophion dayanum xanthinum

The yellow form of a miniature species from the cloud forests of South America, producing small, cage-like flowers with fused sepals that form a closed, lantern-shaped structure with narrow lateral openings — a highly specialized trap-pollination mechanism. This xanthic form lacks the typical dark pigmentation, resulting in a uniformly pale, translucent flower that is particularly sought after by collectors.

  • Light: Low to medium indirect light with 70–80% shade cloth; avoid any direct sun exposure.
  • Temperature: 50–65°F (10–18°C); a cool grower requiring stable cool temperatures and constant air movement.
  • Humidity: 80–90%; high humidity is critical at all times for healthy growth.
  • Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist; never allow the roots to dry out between waterings.

Additional Notes

Best grown in fine sphagnum moss or mounted on cork bark with excellent drainage and strong air circulation to prevent rot. Shipped bare root and well established.
