Description

Description

A spectacular and floriferous species from the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing an extraordinary mass of flowers simultaneously on upright scapes from the base of each pseudobulb. The blooms are dramatic and spider-like, with extraordinarily elongated, pendant lateral sepals, shorter erect petals, and a small, compact lip — a breathtaking display when the plant is in full bloom.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the broad, strap-like foliage.
  • Temperature: 54–75°F (12–24°C); an intermediate grower that performs well with stable temperatures and good air circulation.
  • Humidity: 65–80%; consistent humidity is key for healthy root development and prolific blooming.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the root zone.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix in a medium to large pot. One of the most dramatic spider-flowered Maxillaria species available — a true showstopper when mature. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
