Information

Description

Description

This small to medium-sized, epiphytic species is adaptable, growing across Central and South America in wet tropical forests from 200 to 2000 meters. It is considered an easy-to-grow orchid recognized by its four-angled pseudobulbs and single, leathery leaves.

  • Light: Moderate shade or bright, indirect light. Protect it from direct, intense sunlight, which can damage the foliage.
  • Temperature: Being a wide-ranging species, it is adaptable but prefers intermediate to warm conditions, ideally between 60-85°F (16-29°C).
  • Humidity: It requires high humidity, above 60%, for healthy growth.
  • Watering: Water regularly, keeping the potting medium evenly moist during periods of active growth. Allow the medium to approach dryness between waterings, reducing the frequency slightly in winter.

Additional Notes

This species blooms at any time of the year, producing fragrant, vanilla-scented flowers measuring up to 1 1/4" (3-4 cm). The blooms are typically light fox-red or yellowish and are held on short, basal inflorescences.
