Information

Microgramma bifrons

A fascinating and highly unique epiphytic fern native to the tropical forests of western South America, distinguished by its intriguing, swollen, ant-inhabited tubers that develop along its creeping rhizomes. This "Ant Fern" features dimorphic fronds, with sterile leaves that provide a lush appearance and specialized fertile fronds that add a structural, botanical curiosity to any exotic collection.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; protect from intense, direct sun to prevent scorching the delicate foliage.
  • Temperature: 65–82°F (18–28°C); thrives in warm, stable tropical conditions with good airflow.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; high, consistent humidity is essential for maintaining the health of its tubers and foliage.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate lightly moist but well-drained, allowing for slight drying between waterings to prevent saturation of the tubers.

Additional Notes

Best cultivated mounted on bark or in an airy, well-draining epiphytic mix to showcase its creeping habit and unique tubers. Ships bare root; upon arrival, rehydrate in a shaded, intermediate-temperature environment before planting in your preferred substrate.
