Orchids of the Cymbidium genus are highly prized for their spectacular, long-lasting flower spikes and diverse color palette. They are robust and vigorous plants, known for their adaptability and for being among the most rewarding orchids to grow once their specific temperature cycles are understood.
Light: They require bright, indirect light to thrive. While they appreciate some direct sun during the cooler morning or late afternoon hours, they should be protected from intense midday sun. Healthy foliage should be a light apple-green; dark green leaves often indicate the plant needs more light.
Temperature: These plants exhibit a dual behavior: they grow vigorously in warm climates during their vegetative stage. However, to trigger blooming, they must experience a significant drop in temperature. In regions where natural cold is unavailable, you can induce flowering by performing a thermal shock using cold water (or even ice water) during the early morning or late at night.
Humidity: They prefer moderate humidity levels between 50-70%. Good air circulation is essential to prevent fungal issues, especially when kept in warmer environments.
Watering: During the active growing season (spring and summer), keep the substrate uniformly moist but never waterlogged. In the winter or after flowering, reduce watering and allow the medium to dry out slightly more between applications.
Never heard back after I sent the requested photo of the damaged plant that I received?
Orchid came in good condition. Very pleased with my purchase and care taken in packaging.
Thank you for appreciating our work and for your kind comment! We are delighted to hear that your Cymbidium 2030 Especial arrived in good condition
The plant that arrived was in very poor shape, despite excellent protective packaging, and the obvious fact that it had once been a vigorous specimen. Unfortunately, rot had destroyed all the many long, plastic wrapped roots, which were blackened and mushy, and had begun blackening the bases of the leaves, and the (?) crown/pseudobulb. Although I trimmed off the rotted roots, and staked the plant to fresh orchid medium in hopes it might regrow new roots, I don’t hold out much hope. I hope to get a replacement, if possible.
